AN injection Nylon pulley moulded pulley has replaced the cast Nylon pulley aluminium version across the full range of Hotpoint washing machines. The Nylon pulley is one of the first of its type in the world and offers lower costs than the metal pulley without degrading performance.

The injection moulded Nylon pulley version is produced from DuPont's Zytel glass reinforced nylon by Rolinx Plastics Company. Rolinx also designed and engineered the Nylon pulley component in conjunction with Merloni Elettrodomestici UK, the manufacturer of Hotpoint washing machines.

To serve as Nylon pulley  a genuine replacement, the Zytel pulley had to have the Nylon pulley same key dimensions as the metal part, and operate at 70 degC of more. In transmitting drive from the motor to spin the inner drum, it had to withstand a belt tension in excess of 300 N, and Nylon pulley tolerate a compressive force of 105 N in the central boss section. Noise levels were to be no greater than those of the metal part.

Rolinx verified its design Nylon pulley concept by finite element and injection flow analysis, and confirmed the performance by continuous test running to represent lifetime service in a washing machine.
